The article introduced a case study where a crawler-type robot developed by Eight Japan Technology Development Co., Ltd., combined with Gaussian Splatting technology, visualized hard-to-access underground waterways as high-definition 3D spaces.
It also covered the characteristics of Gaussian Splatting technology, its ability to reproduce realistic 3D spaces while reducing data size compared to conventional point cloud data, and its potential applications in areas such as underground infrastructure maintenance and management, equipment inspection, digital archiving of buildings and cultural properties, and disaster prevention.
This initiative is a collaboration between three companies: Eight Japan Technology Development's Fano Veitra Lab, KOO Co., Ltd., and KIMOTO, advancing technology development, on-site data acquisition, and 3D spatial data creation.
