Sandblasting (Sand Matte Processing)
Environmentally friendly processing technology that does not use organic solvents
Sandblasting (Sand Matte Processing) is a technique in which special, fine sand is uniformly blasted onto a moving roll of film, creating microscopic irregularities on the film surface. This process transforms a smooth film into a matte film.
While making use of the inherent properties of the film base, this process can impart various functions such as a matte finish and increased surface area. As it is a solvent-free process that does not use organic solvents, it is also environmentally friendly.
The Evolution of KIMOTO Technology: Sandblasting (Sand Matte) Edition
vo.1: What is sandblasting? / vo.2: Why do you make it matte?
Blasting + liquid coating possible at the same time
Since developing drafting film in 1965, KIMOTO has refined its sandblasting (sand matte processing) technology for over half a century, offering a wide range of products.
In addition to this process, we also provide inline antistatic and release properties (polymer coating), enabling us to meet a wide variety of needs.
We also offer contract processing services, supporting product development from the early stages to meet our customers' needs.

Features and Structure of Sandblasting (Sand Matte Processing)
Improved adhesion
The microscopic irregularities increase the surface area, expanding the contact area with liquids and thereby enhancing hydrophilicity.
Applications: Base Materials for Adhesive Tapes / Base Materials for Labels
"Contact Angle" Achieved by Sandblasting (Sand Matte) Treatment
| grade | Measurement surface | Contact angle (degrees) |
|---|---|---|
| Non-corona treated surface Sandblasting |
Matte finish surface | 51.4 |
| Transparent PET (raw substrate) |
Corona treated surface | 65.9 |
| Non-corona treated surface | 68.4 |
Contact angle
One method to enhance adhesion is sandblasting (sand matte processing), and the "contact angle" is used as an indicator of its effectiveness.
The smaller the contact angle value, the greater the contact area with the liquid, resulting in improved hydrophilicity and, consequently, better adhesion.
Blocking Prevention
The convex parts of the uneven shape make point contact, preventing sticking.
Applications: Improved Handling of Sheet Products / Improved Winding of Coated Products
Design (shape) transfer/matte
The uneven shape makes it easier to peel off the subject and improves design quality.
Applications: Carrier Films for Resin Sheet Manufacturing Processes / Matte (Anti-Glare) Treatment on Surfaces of Building Materials, etc.
Recruitment field (industry)
As a matte film that can optimize adhesion and release properties, it is used in a wide range of fields that require precise and high-quality manufacturing.
