Striving to Become a 100-Year-Old Enterprise, We are Advancing Workflow Reform.
WEB Inspection
We are presenting our initiative in the Technical Department to reform workflows by leveraging the web.
Even if you don't go to the site...
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to change the environment in which work can only be done on-site, the Health and Safety Committee at Mie Plant , one of our production sites, has begun a new initiative to use the web for monthly factory safety patrols*.
Previously, factory employees would physically visit the site for inspections. To broadcast these inspections via the web, we began by establishing mesh Wi-Fi for stable connectivity over large areas, selecting the right camera equipment, and refining camera work through trial and error. As a result, even employees working from home nationwide can now participate in safety inspections alongside members of the Safety and Health Committee.
* Workplace patrols by health managers, which are mandatory under the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations. They actually go around the work sites where employees work and check for any safety and health issues.
Expanding the circle of friends through WEB Inspections?!
We have expanded the patrols, which were previously conducted only by the Safety and Health Committee members, to employees nationwide. Like the nostalgic TV show where friends pass the baton to the next person, we are expanding the circle of patrols. By having employees from various professions across the country participate, we have found areas for improvement that on-site members might not notice, and the presence of people who are not on-site has changed the mindset of the on-site members to improve the environment.
Aiming for zero workplace accidents
This initiative has expanded beyond the Mie Plant to include the Ibaraki Plant, another production base, and the Saitama Headquarters, the technology development hub, where they have begun implementing WEB patrols. The WEB patrols, initially started as a COVID-19 countermeasure, have spread nationwide and have become a catalyst for communication across the entire company.
In an era where everything is connected to the internet, we will utilize the know-how and technology from previous workflow reforms to ensure even greater safety on-site and aim for zero occupational accidents.
