KIMOTO Workflow Reform vol.25-2
Striving to Become a 100-Year-Old Enterprise, We are Advancing Workflow Reform.
Factory work style reform
We would like to tell you about the working style ofMie Plantemployees, which is KIMOTO's main factory.
Let's change the ordinary, just a little.
The way of working in a factory cannot be easily changed.
At the Mie Plant, this has been the long-held belief.
The fixed-time chime, morning meetings, radio calisthenics, and office attire for indirect departments.
All of these have continued as the norm.
Precisely because of this, there were voices of concern when switching to new ways of working.
Nevertheless, we proceeded one step at a time, slowly. While listening to the voices from the front lines, the awareness of "managing one's own time" and "thinking about one's own way of working" gradually began to take root.
An unexpected event gave us a push.
As work style reform progressed, COVID-19 became a major turning point.
Even in situations where coming to the office was restricted except for manufacturing sites,
Thanks to the foundation built by previous efforts, administrative staff were able to transition to remote work.
On the other hand, situations arose that placed a burden on the sites.
Nevertheless, through understanding each other's situations and supporting one another,
the perspective of "thinking beyond job roles" gradually took root at the sites.
Work Styles at the Mie Plant, Shaped by the Voices of the Site
At the Mie Plant, by advancing the digitization of operations and multi-skilling,
we have worked to create flexible sites that do not rely on specific individuals.
This is an initiative aimed not only at improving productivity but also at sustainable factory operation.
Even if someone is absent, the site does not stop.
There is room to take on new challenges.
Such an environment not only makes work easier but also leads to a sense of fulfillment.
What has supported this reform is "valuing the voices from the front lines."
The accumulation of daily insights and improvements supports employee growth and work-life balance,
and contributes to improving the overall productivity of the factory.
These efforts are being recognized externally as an example of new ways of working in the manufacturing industry.
Moving forward, to ensure each individual can shine through flexible work styles,
we will continue to advance work style reforms unique to our factory while responding to changes in society and the times.
