KIMOTO's Surface Processing Technology Part 2: A Deep Dive into the PCL52 Forming Diffusion Film!
A new type has been added to KIMOTO'sLight Diffusion Filmthat can be molded freely.
KIMOTO's unique technology-developed light control films realize brighter and more uniform light control, and our diverse lineup is used by many customers for a wide range of applications. The OptSaver OptSaver™ series of films reduces light reflection and increases light extraction efficiency. The diffusion film "PCL52" that can be freely molded has been added.
"PCL52" is a film substrate "Polycarbonate and the value that represents how light spreads52 degrees" It was named because of this. Please remember it!

It creates a soft light image.

Printing processing is also available.

It creates a glossy image.
Polycarbonate (Polycarbonate)
"PCL52" uses polycarbonate with a thickness of 250 μm as the base film. It is the only use among KIMOTO film products.
Polycarbonate is a plastic material made from polycarbonate resin. It has cold and heat resistance and can be used over a wide range of temperatures, so it is mainly used in electrical products. Also, since it is not stretched, it does not have optical anisotropy (the degree of polarization differs in the vertical and horizontal directions).
It is characterized by excellent transparency like glass, high impact resistance, and low degradation.
It is a material widely used in various fields in our daily lives.

Formability
The picture on the left shows the test results of the formability of the "PCL52" film.
The "PCL52" film was subjected to 160°C heat and an elongation test was performed. Compared to 50 mm before elongation, 115 mm (about twice as long) after elongation achieves the same light diffusivity as before processing.
"PCL52" is easy to process and has excellent formability while maintaining light diffusion performance, making it possible to design lighting with unprecedented freedom.

Diffusive
The light source is strongest at the center front position, and the brightness decreases as you move sideways. When the value is small (narrow angle), the light is brighter, and when the value is large (wide angle), the diffusivity is higher.
Simply put, it is a value that indicates how the light spreads. The OptSaver™ series comes in a variety of lineups, with PCL52 maintaining a wide lighting angle of 52 degrees even after molding.
